American vs Lafayette- Can “Food Wars”, “Food Feuds” or “Man v Food” Settle the Score?

The Travel Channel‘s Camille Ford (Food Wars), Michael Symon’s Food Feuds and Man v Food’s Adam Richman all made the trip to Detroit to settle the bitter feud that has caused dissent among Detroiters for decades.  Detroit natives agree that in the world of coney dogs, there’s none better than the Detroit Coney; however, that’s where the harmony ends.  Two Detroit Icons, American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island share a building but little else.

Stop any Metro Detroiter and simply ask, “American or Lafayette” and chances are, he/she will have an immediate and emotional response.  One thing’s for sure when it comes to this rivalry, diners are fiercely loyal to one or the other.

During the Travel Channel’s “Food Wars” trip to Metro Detroit, the competition was as fiery and dramatic as ever.  Which Detroit Coney Island came out on top in the D?  Watch this video clip from the Detroit Coney episode of Food Wars to find out.

The Travel Channel’s Food Wars

Iron Chef Michael Symon, owner of Detroit Restaurant Roast and host of “Food Feuds” attacked this topic head-on.  Did he meet with the same level of dissent among Detroiters when he asked diners to choose between Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island?  Only one way to find out.  Take a look at the video clip below.

The Travel Channel’s Adam Richman, host of Man v Food, also made his way to the D primarily to tackle the country’s biggest burger. But during his visit, he made stops at American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island to weigh in on this age old dispute. The following slide show chronicles his visit.

Even after the experts weigh in, the question remains.  Which is the better Detroit Coney – American or Lafayette?  I guess you’ll have to be your own judge and jury.  This is one battle that may go down in the history books as being one of the most epic food fights of all time.
