You can satisfy your drink desires with more than 100 different martinis, over 200 different kinds of liquors and over 100 beers, and a wine list that offers more than 55 wines.  The bar is unique and very cool with the way it lights up and the atmosphere is very inviting and relaxing.  They also offer outdoor seating weather permitting.  The Downtown Main Martini Bar & Grille’s dedicated and knowledgeable staff and takes pride in offering every guest a night worth telling everyone about.

dt2The  Tapas Menu has dishes like the Portabella Sliders, Pear Pizza (which is topped with mozzarella and crumbled bleu cheese, diced pears, walnuts, bacon) and Pulled Pork Sliders.  You can also make any of the Tapas items an entree and get a basket of the fresh baked bread and soup or salad for $4.00.  There are also healthy and Gluten Free items available on the Tapas Menu as well.

dt4On the Entree Menu, Chef Joe offers everything from sandwiches and salads to some of the best entrees you can find in any Detroit Restaurant.  The Scallops Toscana are a big hit (Pan-seared scallops served with fettuccini pasta sautéed with sweet bell peppers, baby spinach, and garlic in a light vin blanc sauce) so is the Lobster Mac and Cheese, my favorite is the 12 ounce Veal Porterhouse.  There are many great items to select on the Entree menu, but leave room for dessert.

dt3After dinner Downtown Main is one of Detroit’s premiere places to hang out.  There are many different events such as: ladies night, live entertainment, wine tastings, happy hour and weekly food specials.

5 Detroit Restaurants with Quick and Inexpensive Lunch Specials

I always find that lunch is never long enough to get a good meal and have the time to enjoy it.  So I decided to put together a list of 5 places around Metro Detroit that serve up a fast and good lunch.  Of course they also have good lunch specials as well.

SaharaSahara Restaurant in Warren and St. Clair Shores – Sahara Restaurant in Warren has only been open for a few months now but they are making a good impression in the Warren area, while the St. Clair Shores location has been open for decades. The service is good and the food comes out fast – the Lunch Special is from 11AM – 2PM.  Every day you get any sandwich + 1/2 salad or cup of soup and a soft drink for $7.99 (fattoush, tabbouleh and Sahara salad are upgraded for a dollar extra as a salad.)

G.Subu’s Leather Bottle is located on Middlebelt Road in Livonia south of Eight Mile Road.  A longtime staple in Livonia, G. Subu’s Leather Bottle serves a quick and hearty lunch special. Monday through Friday from 11AM – 3PM you can get a half sandwich with side salad or a cup of Soup Du Jour only 6.99.  Choose one of the following:  Roast Turkey, Dearborn Sausage Ham, Tuna, BLT, or Marinated Chicken.

eg nicksE.G. Nick’s in Downtown Plymouth – The nice thing about E.G. Nick’s in Plymouth is the parking right behind the restaurant.  This makes it easy to get in and out of the Downtown area quickly.  Get their $1.95 Prime Rib Sliders every Monday for lunch.  You WON’T be disappointed!

ACI

American Coney Island in Downtown Detroit has been around since 1917 and the food is still as good as ever.  Although they don’t have a lunch special per say you can get a Coney, Fries and Pop for $5.90.  The best part?  You can be in and out in 15 minutes!

eclipseEclipse Burgers in Sterling Heights offers up one of the best burgers in Macomb County.  The service is great and the hamburger is fantastic.  I would, however, call in my order ahead of time because they are quite busy during lunch.  After you eat there you will see why.  The special is every day from 10AM – 3PM where you get any burger or sandwich with fries and pop – $8.99.

Emil’s Italian Restaurant – a Family Friendly Eatery

Emil’s Italian Restaurant emphasizes its family heritage and calls itself a family-friendly eatery. With the soft lighting and intimate booths, many also consider it a romantic destination for first dates or anniversaries. In business since 1921, Emil’s is the oldest restaurant in Lansing, and is still owned by the same family.

Emil’s is a warm and inviting restaurant, filled with patrons out for the traditional Italian-American fare Emil’s has been serving for generations. The dining room is lined on either side with booths, backs are high and it makes you feel like there’s no one else in the room and the extensive woodwork, stained glass and Tiffany lamps hanging from ceiling add to the ambience and charm of the restaurant.

You can go a number of different directions in regards to what to order.  From the BBQ ribs, the pizza and of course the spaghetti (on special Monday – all you can eat for $5.95 and again on special Tuesday for $5.49).  Other options include Italian sausage and peppers; shells stuffed with ricotta cheese, shrimp, and crab meat, eggplant primavera, and the lasagna (layers of spicy sausage, tangy sauce and silky ricotta).

Emil’s is a very popular spot for students, residents, and visitors to dine while in Lansing.  There need not be a special occasion to visit Emil’s other than the fact you want a fantastic meal and maybe start a family tradition of your own.

A Little bit of Memphis in Fenton

Memphis is a city that takes great pride in its barbecue. They claim to have the best barbecue in the world and have become famous for it. But what exactly is Memphis-Style Barbecue?

Traditional Memphis barbecue is usually smoked pork served in one of two forms: ribs on a slab or pulled. Memphis is probably best known for its dry barbecue. Most frequently used on ribs, the dry style is highly flavorful and is less messy to eat than wet. In the dry process, the ribs are coated with a rub made from ingredients such as garlic, paprika, onions, cumin, and other spices. They are then cooked in a smoker until they are fall-off-the-bone tender. Typically, dry ribs are served with a sauce on the side.

Beale Street Smokehouse is named after the famed street in Memphis, Tenn. Beale Street Smokehouse is located on North Road in Fenton and serves Memphis-style barbecue, and that means the dry-rub or spices is key to their style. They use a mixture of 16 spices on their meat, then off to the smoker.

To accompany your ribs or pulled pork, Beale Street has sweet potato fries that are dusted with a sweet cinnamon maple powder. One of my favorite sides to go along with my barbecue is one of their 14 Michigan craft beers either on tap or in bottles.

When you are there, you can view upcoming blues bands they have scheduled to play at Beale Street Smokehouse on the chalkboard inside or you can view weekly on www.michiganflavor.com.

If you are looking for a little Memphis, you can find it at Beale Street Smokehouse. Memphis Smoked Barbeque, Michigan Craft Beers and live Blues.

Patio Season in Full Force in Mid Michigan

I love this time of year, the weather is perfect for eating and drinking on patios at restaurants all over Detroit. Here is a list of a few that you may not know about. I love eating at restaurants in Detroit that offer outdoor dining.

E.G. Nick’s Plymouth – My favorite patios in Plymouth, unlike a lot of the outdoor dining in Plymouth. At E.G. Nick’s you won’t get a mouthful of exhaust with every bite.

Bar None Brighton – This out of the way Brighton restaurant has fantastic food and a nice patio where you can relax and enjoy a very well prepared meal.

Downtown Main Brighton– Right in the heart of Downtown Bright, here you can relax and enjoy music on the patio. The thing I like about here is, the patio is not close to the road and you can still enjoy the weather, music and of course a great martini.

The Hills Bar & Grille Rochester Hills – 3 different outdoor dining area at this Rochester Hills restaurant.

Pizzeria Biga – Southfield – Pizza outdoors, need I say more?

Salvatpore Scallopini – Southfield – With the recently re-done garden and patio area, a very nice place to grab some lunch or dinner.

Doc’s Sports Retreat – Livonia If you like sports and watching sports eating and drinking a few ice cold beverages outdoors this would be a good spot to try.

RJ’s American Grill – Farmington Hills This Farmington Hills restaurant has a very nice outdoor dining area well away from Northwestern Highway.

Tavern on the Main – Clawson – If there is a better restaurant in Clawson to eat outdoors I haven’t found it.

Ginopolis BBQ Smokehouse – Located at 12 Mile rd & Middlebelt, this Farmington Hills restaurant serves up some pretty good barbeque in a nice relaxed outdoor setting.

Rogala’s

Located on Ford Rd in Garden City, Rogala’s is home of the Thin and Snappy – A very good thin crust pizza.

Mothers Pizzeria
